bacon wrapped jalepenos appetizer wild olive restaurant crestview flSo we enjoyed a lovely evening at the Wild Olive in Crestview, FL. We went with a group of friends, and spent the whole evening laughing and eating. And in my opinion, that’s the best way to spend an evening!

We started off with a couple of delicious appetizers. My absolute favorite was the bacon wrapped jalepenos! I have had these before at a tailgating party, but they pale in comparison to the Wild Olive’s version! They were perfect with just enough heat. Loved ‘em! We also had an order of tempura-fried zucchini. These were also good, though in my opinion, they could have used a little more seasoning. Of course it could have been the pairing of the two apps!

Next came our salads. I ordered a caesar, and I must admit that I was quite disappointed. It tasted a lot like the caesar salad kits that you can buy at any grocery store. Don’t get me wrong, I myself use these easy fix salads from time to time, but when I’m going to a nice restaurant I would prefer something a little more sophisticated. The worst part of all was that the salad was overly dressed, which made the lettuce soggy. I didn’t even finish mine, becasue it was so bad.

Grouper entree wild olive crestview flOur entrees were an improvement. I ordered the shrimp tuscana. It was good, though not amazing. It had rigatoni pasta in a garlic cream sauce with sundried tomatoes, scallions, and shrimp. The menu said it also included asparagus, but I couldn’t find any in my dish which was a disappointment. My husband ordered the pepper-crusted ribeye, and I must say it was AWESOME! The steak was so tender and juicy. It could literally be cut with a fork. The best entree was our friend Ryan’s. He ordered the grouper. Now let me tell you, I’m not a big fish eater, but this was so good, I wanted to steal Ryan’s plate!

We ended with dessert, and it was a perfect ending to our evening. My husband, David, had their chocolate mousse cake. (I have him trained to always get chocolate, so he can share it with me!) It was scrumptous. We also tried the creme brulee, red velvet cake, and key lime pie. I don’t even like key lime pie, but theirs was wonderful. I think I might even order my own slice next time. Are you curious about what I ordered for dessert? It’s silly, but I got spumoni ice cream. I love spumoni (for those of you who don’t know what spumoni is, it’s an Italian ice cream similar to neopolitan, except the three flavors are chocolate, cherry, and pistacio), but I haven’t had it in 4 years, because I can’t find it in our area. So I was thrilled when I saw it on the menu.

Overall we had a wonderful night at the Wild Olive, and I look forward to having many more. One of the best parts of our evening was our server. He was great. I never ran out of lemonade. Unfortunately, it was his last night there. He’s moving to Vermont to wait tables at a ski resort up there. I wish him all the luck.

So for those of you who live in Northwest Florida, or even if you’re just visiting, take the time to visit The Wild Olive. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your time there. You can also read the Crestview News Bulletin’s write up on this new restaurant here. Click below to see larger photos.
