An evening at Jacksons in Pensacola, FL
Last night was my birthday, and my wonderful husband decided to take me to a local restaurant in Pensacola, FL called Jacksons. A friend had recommended it after taking his wife there for their anniversary. We were not disappointed.
Nestled in historic downtown Pensacola, Jacksons’ dining room is warm and inviting; a lively oasis in the middle of the city. With chandeliers shaped like tree limbs holding faux melting candlesticks, a warm golden glow enveloped us as we sat down to enjoy our dinner.
We started our meal with their “tappetizer.” A sampling of three innovative appetizers that double as tapas. We chose goat cheese stuffed calamari with maranara and fried basil, tempura baby lobster tails with a sweet chile sauce, and chees grits with spicey shrimp and sausage. What a way to start a meal! My friend who ate their called the food a “culinary orgasm,” and I have to admit, she wasn’t kidding!
The experience continued with our entrees. I had chicken pilliard with lump crab meat and melted bree, served over a bed of basil risotto. My husband David ordered a variety of wild game cuts of meat which included elk, venison, and lamb, which was a substitution for the quail that was not available yet. My dish was incredible. The chicken was dredged in some kind of light breading that was yummy and crispy, and the crab meat was so sweet and delicious. This was my first experience with risotto, and I must say it was so creamy and wow! I loved it. David was a little less impressed with his meal. He loved the elk’s silky texture, and the lamb chops were perfect, but the venison was a bit bland.
Dessert was a wonderful surprise. One of our servers recommended the banana pudding. It was a delightfully light parfait-like banana pudding with caramelized bananas on top. It was wonderful; a sophisticated twist on one of my favorite desserts.
Overall our evening at Jackson’s was lovely. The service was a little slow, but it may have only seemed that way because we had to get back to our two kiddies waiting at Grandma’s house. I definitely look forward to going back to Jackson’s again and again.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is amazing. Went for my birthday with some of the guys from the office and we loved it. Very manly but sophisticated.
