Falcon Family Restaurant review - Winslow, AZ Route 66

On our way home from Phoenix we decided to go on Route 66 for a bit. So of course we had to try some of the local restaurants. So in Winslow, AZ we turned off to hunt for a local eatery. We found Falcon Family Restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the various Mexican and American offerings.

It was your standard hole in the wall place, nothing fancy as far as décor goes (dating back to the 70’s). The staff was friendly and smiled and talked to our sweet daughter. So we found a spot to sit and began to puruse the menu. They had standard diner fair: hamburgers, country fried steak, fried chicken, but something alittle different was their Mexican portion of the menu. Chalupas, Tacos, Burritos, even fajitas.

Not being in the mood for meat, I went for the California burrow. A massive burrito filled with beans, rice, sour cream & Guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onions, & cheese. The thing probably weighed 2 pounds. My husband ordered the Flacon’s Signature Country Fried Steak which came with, white gravy, vegetable (corn that day), and potato (French fries, potato, or mashed potatoes). The kids got mac & cheese & corn dog and fries.

The portions were ridiculously huge. David’s steak was about 9 inches long and could choke a horse (if a horse ate steak). The kids meals were equally large portions. Expecting a corn dog a few fries we received 2 corn dogs, 3 potatoes worth of fries that were obviously homemade. As I said before, my burrito was ridiculously huge, and after only eating half I was stuffed. We all ate way to much because the food was so good. I was excited to see that they offered a large selection of pie (I blame watching pushing daisies). I wanted to try the blueberry but all they had left was apple. Happy it wasn’t cherry, I gladly took the alternative of apple with 2 scoops of Ice Cream.

Soo…..maybe I only ate half of my burrito so I would have room to eat the pie…shhh don’t tell my husband (“that’s funny” husband says, since wife is driving on I-40 and husband is writing this up on the laptop…). It was worth the sacrifice because the pie was phenomenal. The crust was flaky and buttery though a little overdone around the edges. But that’s nothing ice cream can’t fix. So after our pleasant meal we all rolled back to our car, stuffed to the brim & ready to continue the journey home.
