So living in Crestview can make finding a delicious, ethnic meal hard to do. So anytime I’m craving something exotic and different I know I can always look to Nellie’s Lumpia House to deliver.

Nellie, owner and head “chef”, prepares the finest Asian food in Crestview. The menu is simple but perfect. The food is served buffet style, and though it is a small buffet, the quality of the food more than makes up for its size. This delectable buffet of Filipino favorites features curry chicken, fried rice, pancit noodles, sauteed green beans, chicken-on-a-stick, cheese wontons, and my favorite, pork afritada. This dish is a Filipino stew with juicy pieces of pork, potatoes, carrots, and onions.

Of course the stars of the restaurant are the lumpias. Nellie’s prepares two different lumpias. David’s, my husband’s, favorite is the Shang hai. It’s a small meat lumpia that features a variety of ground meats, wrapped in a crispy wrapper and deep fried. My favorite is the vegetable lumpia. Don’t let the name fool you; this lumpia is filled with ground beef, vegetables and cheese. It’s much larger and so yummy! I love it!

I recently took two friends to Nellie’s for lunch. One of them was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. It kind of reminds me of food that my mom makes, only it’s got a Filipino flair. I love it–Asian comfort food at it’s finest.

So for the next time you get a craving for Chinese, instead of hitting the nearest take out place, check out Nellie’s. Trust me, if you do, you’ll never want another eggroll again!
